The ABC’s of Heart Health

Do you know your ABCs of Heart Health?

Coach Jill, RD breaks it down in a fun and easy way to remember!

A: Hemoglobin A1c is an average of your blood sugar level over a 3 month time frame. High A1c levels can lead to complications of Diabetes and Heart Disease. Keep your A1c down by increasing the amount of vegetables, fruits and complex carbohydrates in your diet.

B: Blood Pressure- Blood pressure is the force of your blood against the wall of your blood vessels. Keeping your blood pressure under control keeps your heart from pumping more than it should. Maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle should keep blood pressure within normal limits.

C: Cholesterol- Cholesterol is a type of fat. There are two kinds of cholesterol in your blood: LDL and HDL. LDL or “bad” cholesterol can build up and clog your blood arteries, increasing risk for heart disease.

S: Stop Smoking- Simple enough!
